GUEST BOOK (2005)
Thank you for visiting the Windows Support Center.
Please feel free to ADD TO THIS GUEST BOOK if you wish!
Refresh this page and its menu bar at left.
Return to Windows Support Center Home Page.

I have (at least temporarily) suspended the Guest Book because it continues to attract thousands of spam items per month in addition to the smaller number of legitimate guestbook posts. It doesn’t make sense for me to spend more time trimming the guestbook than working on other pages of this site.

As an alternative, I have created a Guest Book Forum on AumHa Forums. You don’t have to register on the forums to post to the Guest Book section, but of course you are welcome and encouraged to register on the forums if you need help with any computer issue. (If the spammers start flooding the Guest Book forum [sigh!] then I will probably require registration to post.)

Feel free to read the Guest Book entries below, and from past years.

It took a long time but I finally found the solution to my problem here at AumHa. Using the script, provided by Ramesh Srinivasan (Moderator), I was able to find the invalid service causing the error, 'inst.PathName' null or not an object, while trying to get system services info in Help and Support. In a split second the rogue entry was identified, SNDSrvc, and deleted using Regseeker. Problem solved, so a big "Thank you" to the forum and Ramesh.

Well, as it turns out the best info for me is that apparently ME doesn’t shutdown all programs completely. So with that in mind I close all other applications(slowly) first before signing off AOL and exiting their program. When I say slowly I mean that I wait the few extra seconds it takes for the hard drive to stop ‘clicking’ (completely) before I click anything else. So when ME has completely put WORD away and the hard drive stops ‘clicking’, then I’ll exit the next application, and then wait, and so on. When AOL is the last thing running, I go to the pull-down menu, then ‘Sign Off’, and then wait. I don’t even let the pointer move until that hard drive to stops ‘clicking’. And it takes a couple of minutes with my machine. Only then do I ‘Exit’ the AOL program from the ‘File’ pull-down menu and then wait until that hard drive stops ‘clicking’ and then, only then do I go to ‘Start’ and then wait, ‘Shut Down’ and then wait, and then finally ‘Shut Down’. So far I’ve been having really good luck with using that method. I hope that this will be of help to someone.

I just wanted to thank LADY VADAR for the suggestion and the link to the site. At first glance the best info is the fact that the trouble is with ME, AOL or the combo and not with something I’ve done(except for maybe putting in that Free 3 month trial CD). The problem I’ll have is which fit to try first. I’m not very experienced in messing around with programming and the like. If you don’t here back from me within a couple of weeks – then something went wrong and there was a crash. Thanks a Bunch.

Looking for solutions for my virus problems I received a link from Washington Monthly forum stating your site was informative and had free antivirus and spyware. Already I had checked and read two of these free antiviruses but had not any feedback from anyone as to how great they were until I read them all in your website. I already had "spy bot" and "adware". I am choosing some of your recommended programs. THANK YOU so much, I really appreciate your time and patience you have put into this fantastic site, and I will refer others to you, also.

Someone told me about this site, & it really looks great, I started using computers two years after my wife passed away, 1999, I am 74 in May, long retired, I have always been interested in all things electronic, & computers were just the thing to keep my mind active, I say that I'm in my 70's, my mind thinks it's 40, but my body is in it's 80's! I tried Techspot, & have been a member for over two years now, & just thought I'd try new horizons, & it looks like I did the right thing, AumHa seems to suit me nicely, & I'm sure I shall soon be singing it's praises. Cheers, Maurice

I'm tempted to say that this is thr best site on the 'net. The information provided is brilliant and useful. The recommended freeware really works and when I have sought solutions to problems I have always had an answer, which works, within hours. And it's all free. I'm not a PC expert so therefore I'm a bit wary when I try something new. Everyone comes across as being quite friendly which also makes it easier. I have told all my friends about the site and they are impressed except for one guy who has not been here and is always moaning about his PC problems! If I ever get to meet Jim Eshelmen or any of the good people who run the site, the beers are on me! Thanks a lots guys me and my PC appreciate you all.

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of Alex Nichol. He was a true gentleman, and was a great help to thousand upon thousands of people with Windows problems. And while we didn't always agree on some things, he always had my deepest and sincerest respect, and admiration. I could always tell that his motivations were pure, that all he wanted was to help his fellow man. I will miss him, but God just gained some great tech support for Heaven. Good-Bye Alex, you will be missed by all.

My brother-in-law has a five year old Toshiba Satellite notebook with Windows ME as an operating system. He has been unable to use it for the past two months (took it to a computer shop twice...they couldn't help). The problem is it has 130 Trojan viruses on it (PWS-Datei and Downlowder-DC). Spybot and Adware can't find them! When we run McAfee, it identifies them but it can't clean, remove or quarantine them. These viruses keep the Google find box and the AOL favorites box popping up so frequently that we can't get to any file or the internet. ( I am on my Dell 3300 now) Any suggestions?
